5 Things to Know about Thursday Nights MIAA-A Conference championship game!


McDonogh vs. Calvert Hall

  1. This will be McDonogh’s third consecutive trip to the title game. If the Eagles are victorious they will join Gilman, Boys’ Latin and Loyola Blakefield with a total of 4 MIAA championships.
  2. Even though their is a youth movement in the conference with the latest head coaching hires. McDonogh’s Andy Hilgartner and Calvert Hall’s Bryan Kelly are two of three (Gilman’s Brooks Matthews is the third) of the tenured coaches left in the conference.
  3. Shall McDonogh beat Calvert Hall, it will be the first time in the modern MIAA/IAAM era that for two straight seasons the boys and girls Private School lacrosse champions came from the same school.
  4. Calvert Hall enters the game on Thursday with a perfect record in the conference this season. This will be the first time Kelly has taken an undefeated team into the title game.
  5. Calvert Hall will be playing for their third A-conference title.

Earlier this season Calvert Hall defeated McDonogh at home, 11–9. It was the first in-conference loss for the Eagles since 2015.

McDonogh

Andy Hilgartner: “You want to learn something from every game that you play. And we learned a ton from the first time we played Calvert Hall. Losing the way we lost to them made us a better team. And we will see if we continued to improve and how we matchup with them on Thursday.”

Junior, D/LSM/OM/SSDM, BJ Ferrare: “We have to out work them. They out worked us (earlier this season). We have to come ready to play and know they are bringing their A game and we are going to be bringing our A game. And we will just fight it out.”

Calvert Hall

Bryan Kelly: “They are a really good team. McDonogh plays great team defense they are dynamic on offense.”

Junior, Midfielder, Zach Green: “I’am really excited. During my time at Calvert Hall I have never been to a championship game. I am really excited to get out there.”
