Season Preview: St. Mary’s Annapolis is ready to put together a successful 2018 season

The Saints made it to the MIAA A conference postseason and St. Mary’s is looking to build off their 2017 campaign to go further into the middle of May this season.

After a disastrous 2016 season where the Saints went 1–15 after winning the conference title the year before, head coach Victory Lilly was able to have the Saints back on track.

The defining moment for the Saints was when they beat St. Paul’s at home in overtime. The win was a sign that Lilly had his kids believing and that the private school program from Annapolis was to be taken seriously by teams in the Baltimore area.

Lilly, an alum of the program, was named head coach in 2016 and was patient and the players were patient with as he got acquainted with the new role. Coaching in this conference isn’t easy and many have tried and then have vanished because it’s a grueling schedule and a ton of talent across the board.

St. Mary’s has the talent and they have a great coaching staff. The Saints will be a team to watch this season as they will be motivated from their success a year ago.

Coach Lilly’s Outlook

SM is coming off of making the MIAA playoffs in 2017. We look to our returning players to move us further into the post season in 2018. Returning key players are Ian Krampf, Aleric Fyock, Taylor Bohanan, King Ripley and Tristan Michie.

We will look to BJ Burlace to be a defensive leader along with Cal Hadley, Ryan Stanford and Christian Lafranchise.

Alex Wicks will be returning as a sophomore and hopes to pick up right where he left off in the spring.

Players coming out in 2018 we are looking to see contribute are Scout Ripley, Ryan Jones and Jack Burnett.

Our faceoff group of Thomas Kermer, Jack Kerr, Ethan Gaeng and Gerard Berzins are competing hard everyday at the X.

The key to a successful season this year at SM is to see how this group of players in 2018 grow together as a team and let the team blossom into the spring.

St Mary’s Out of conference games are:

3/2 St. John’s ( Washington, DC)

3/9 St. Mary’s Ryken

‪3/13 Georgetown Prep‬

3/16 Landon

3/21 Sts. Peter and Paul

3/24 Annapolis HS

3/27 Springside Chestnut Hill (PA)
