The Top Players Who Impressed at the Mason Dixon Showcase: Maryland Tryouts

On Monday night, the selection committee for the Mason Dixon Showcase held Tryouts at Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Field for the Maryland team that will compete against the Central Pennsylvania teams next week.

The Mason Dixon Showcase was formed to provide public school lacrosse players in both regions an opportunity to showcase their skills, utilizing a tryout and selection process, hosted specifically for the public school lacrosse player. As many of you are aware public school lacrosse players are frequently overlooked and or discounted by current known event platforms of similar structure for the sole reason they attend a public and not a private school. This event is specifically designed to provide opportunities to public school players and over time our hope is we can offset that perception.

Over the past 35 years the game of lacrosse has grown immensely, the ratios for the number of high school players (public and private) participating in sanctioned high school lacrosse compared to the number of available NCAA roster spots is as great as it has been in the history of the sport. Great ratio’s for the NCAA coaching community, although for players who are striving to play at the next level, those ratios can be daunting. Players need to explore additional platforms to enhance the level of NCAA exposure at events like Mason Dixon and for public school players an event platform specifically tailored to them.

Here are the players who stood out during the Tryouts on Monday night:

Anthony Holloway Truxon

Queen Anne’s HS

2021 Left Handed Attackman MD Wolfpack

PRLB Feedback: Truxon demonstrated good food work and ball movement. The Queen Anne’s. Frosh was one of the best offensive players at the Tryouts.

Jansen Pusateri

Winters Mill HS

2019 Defense FCA

PRLB Feedback: One of the best poles at the Tryouts. Displayed excellent checking and shined with his athleticism. Strong kid with Division 1 level skillset.

Logan Covey

Westminster

2020 Goalie Rock Lacrosse

PRLB Feedback: Covey is one of the best junior goalies in the state. Logan just guided Westminster to a state championship and is looking to help the Maryland team return home from York Pa with a W.

Chad Schaffer

Manchester Valley

2020 LSM Rock Lacrosse

PRLB Feedback: Shaffer hustles all over the field. Excellent Lax IQ. Good to match up with opposing teams best offensive player. Except him to have a big game in the Showcase.

Conner Covey

Wesminster

2020 Midfield Rock Lacrosse

PRLB Feedback: Covey also shined for the Owls in the state championship and like his brother is one of the best sophomores middies in the area. Covey moves the ball well and has an explosive shot in cage.
