PRLB Q&A w/ The Woodlands (TX) 2021 Goalie Matthew Nunes had a weekend to remember at UA All…


This past weekend Matthew Nunes of The Woodlands (TX) made the most of his opportunity to play with the best players in the nation.

Nunes, a rising sophomore, was selected to the West Underclass team and made sure the college coaches on hand knew who he was and where he’s from. Helping the West Command UA Underclass team to a tourney championship and was named to the All Tournament Team and MVP.

This past season Nunes had close to 300 saves and averaged 2.5 goals allowed, guiding the Highlanders to a Texas state title.

The PRLB did a Q&A with Matthew and got his thoughts on a fantastic weekend.

Peace Report: How does it feel to be selected for the Under Armour Underclass event?

Matthew Nunes: It is a great honor. At the tryouts there were 15+ goalies from California, Nevada, Washington and Texas. To be selected out of that group is very cool.

PRLB: What’s it mean to you to get some excellent exposure to how you play the game in front of College coaches?

Nunes: It’s great to play in front of the coaches this year and also see where I compare to the other goalies.

PRLB: How long have you been playing lacrosse?

Nunes: Since first grade and picked up goalie at the end of third grade

PRLB: How did you feel your HS team did this season?

Nunes: We won the Division 1 state title!

PRLB: What are you trying to improve on skill wise this summer?

Nunes: Seeing more top shots from the best shooters in the nation

PRLB: What kind of sticks do you play with?

Nunes: STX eclipse with 20 diamond mesh and a gait ice handle. I have two of the exact sticks with me at all time.

PRLB: Name the favorite song your listening to now.

Nunes: Dreams and Nightmares by Meek Mill

PRLB: What’s your favorite movie?

Nunes: Iron Man 2

PRLB: In your opinion what’s the best part of your game?

Nunes: Communication and trying to be a leader.

PRLB: Has the new recruiting rules made the searching for college process easier for you?

Nunes: Yes it has allowed me to further develop and improve. Also it has allowed me to figure out if I want a small or large school and what type of academic program I really want
